End Quote: Still Feeling Cuckolded by T.O.

Today’s Daily Examiner quip comes from Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard, who offered his take on why Philadelphia fans are still so, erm, passionate about former wide receiver Terrell Owens:

“I think that relationship is kind of like when you have a girlfriend you used to love in the past, maybe high school, and you loved her so much, but you hate her so bad now. But you can’t stop talking about it.”

Talented as ever, T.O. will be in town this week [Inquirer]

Philadelphia Gaypatriate Finds Murder Humor Goes Best With Dessert

Philadelphia murder cake
This inspired confectionary masterpiece is brought to you by the blogger “The GayPatriot,” a former Philadelphian who chooses to express outrage (or ironic disdain) for the murder epidemic in the form of baked goods:

For those of you not following news from The City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia’s murder rate has skyrocketed in 2007 and is at an all time high. On Friday, October 19th Philadelphia’s death count due to murder hit Number 323. Thus, the cake marking the occasion for our visiting Philadelphia friends. We didn’t really celebrate, but instead derided Philadelphia Mayor John Street for his complete lack of leadership from the New Orleans-esque crime wave to economic development issues.

TGP is a pseudonym for Bruce Carroll, a North Carolina Log Cabin Republican who lived around here for a few years. Should we be flattered that he misses us or replused by his baker?

Happy Halloween, Philadelphia! [GayPatriot]

Back From the Dead: Nancy Glass

1193857621Was I the only one watching MY PHL Channel 17 last night at 9 p.m. when onetime Evening Magazine personality (and six-time Emmy winner) Nancy Glass popped up as host of The Iron Mask?

It’s a bizarre little talk show from veteran reality show producer Bruce Nash (For Love or Money, Meet My Folks, When Good Pets Go Bad) in which masked individuals reveal horrible secrets about themselves and are then given the opportunity to remove the mask at the end of their segment.

You didn’t miss much. Honestly, miserable Dr. House was a bit more entertaining, which isn’t saying much, of course, so I only caught a few snippets of Iron Mask, including a pilot who talked about having sex on the floor of the cockpit with the flight attendant and dancing naked on a table while he was supposed to be flying a plane. No word on if or when other episodes might air, assuming other episodes exist. Glass, who has a production company in Bala Cynwyd, is out of the office today and was unavailable for comment. — Victor Fiorillo

Capasso (and the Other Guy) Cleared of Charges

For those of you following the admittedly silly little dustup between Alex Capasso of Blackbird in Collingswood and lawyer Thomas Zemaitis of Pepper Hamilton’s Philadelphia office, I am happy to report that the charges against both men were dropped this morning in Collingswood municipal court, meaning that Capasso can go back to cooking his three-bell food for hopefully less testy customers and Zemaitis can go back to the much less exciting world of antitrust and intellectual property law. — Victor Fiorillo

The Nach Attack: What the November Sweeps Will Mean for Philly

The November sweeps season starts tomorrow. While the Philadelphia market now uses “Local People Meters,” which measure ratings on a continual basis, sweeps-oriented network programming means the traditional sweeps months of November, February, May and July are still important to local stations. Expect lots of “news” stories about losing weight, reporters visiting network shows, and sex.

Of course, in Philly, 6 ABC will come in first place as it has done for pretty much the last 30 years — but there’s still plenty of potential industry drama to keep an eye on this month:

Coffee-Mug-Wielding Blogger Attacks Radio Station for Lack of Springsteen

Will BunchThe strangely bearded Will Bunch, proprietor of the Attytood blog at the Daily News, is calling out radio station 104.5 for its refusal to play Bruce Springsteen’s Magic album. Bunch suggests that since 104.5 is a Clear Channel Radio Station (which is pro-war, apparently), they’re holding The Boss’s liberal hippie music against him.

Says Bunch: It takes a lot to get the blood boiling after seven years of the Cheney/Bush administration, but Clear Channel — that war-and-Bush lovin’ media monopoly that dominates many markets around the nation and six here in Philly — has got me more worked up than anything in recent weeks. If you care about what’s been going in on this country — and happen to love Bruce Springsteen, as I do — then this should ensure that you never listen to Clear Channel ever again.

Feisty! Bunch credits the GOP-bashing Down With Tyranny blog for the revelation. He suggested that Springsteen fans boycott listening to all local Clear Channel Stations, and said he’s “about to take 104.5 off my presets” because he believes in “free expression.” Oh, Dad …

The Ghosts of City Hall

Longstreth CohenIn today’s hyperactively digital world, it has been said that if you don’t have a website, you don’t exist. So I wonder if the converse is true — if you have a website, you do exist.

If so, this presents an interesting quandary for the likes of David Cohen and W. Thacher Longstreth, two of recent history’s most beloved members of City Council, who are both quite deceased but who still have active web pages on the city’s website, phila.gov. You can even send an e-mail to Cohen through his site, though I tried and am still awaiting a response.
